Exploring the History of Rolls Royce

Exploring the History of Rolls Royce

Located deep inside the BMW Museum lies another museum that some people may not even know is here. It's not German cars, but British car maker Rolls Royce. While the largest Rolls Royce museum is located in Austria, this one is inside BMW because in 1998, BMW bought both Rolls Royce and Mini.

Inside this little museum, you can see how the Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament came to be as well as how she evolved over the years. When you first look at the cars from the 1920's, they do look like enormous land yachts. What these cars really are though are luxurious limousines for the ridiculously wealthy as well as royalty. Like BMW, Rolls Royce also built aircraft engines, but due to financial difficulties, the aircraft company split from the car company and still produces jet engines today.

After almost facing bankruptcy, Rolls Royce was bought by BMW along with Mini and modern versions of the classic Phantom and Silver Ghost were created. They're still basically limos for the uber-wealthy, but at least the king of the luxury car market is still around making the most luxurious cars anyone has ever seen. It may be a small museum, but is definitely worth the look just to see how far Rolls Royce has come. Also, access to the museum comes with the cost of admission to the BMW Museum, so it's basically two museums in one.
