Exploring the History of BMW

Exploring the History of BMW

When most people think of the city of Munich, Germany, they usually think of World War II and the Nazis. But there is so much more to this Bavarian city. Besides the sheer beauty, it also contains the headquarters of the Bavarian Motor Works (BMW). Next to the headquarters lies BMW Welt, where people can go in and see the current models and for customers to pick up their cars from the factory. There is also the BMW Museum, where people can learn about the history of BMW.

Built in 1972, this museum tells the story of how BMW started as well as where it is headed. You start during the era of World War II, where BMW made aircrafts. There are no more planes to be found, but you can see the V12 engines that powered the planes.

You then come across a big hall of nothing but motorcycles. Known most for it's cars, BMW makes not only fast motorcycles for the road, they also make fast dirt bikes. Besides the hall of motorcycles, there is also a room with all the M cars, starting with the one that started it all; the M1. Besides looking at all the M cars, you can also look at the engines that powered these cars, and even listen to the great noise each engine made.

It takes a good hour just to explore this incredible museum, but not only do you learn the history of BMW, you can see where BMW has been and where it's going in the future of cars. More pictures of the museum can be found at the link below.
