Not many car makers ever make it to 50 years in the business, let alone 100 years. This year, Aston Martin has reached the 100 year mark. To celebrate this remarkable event, a special concept car was built to honor both Aston Martin's role in both the car making industry as well as the racing industry.
Called the CC100 Speedster, this two seater racer debuted at last weekend's 24-hour race at the Nurburgring in Germany. It takes it's design from the legendary DBR1, which won the 24-hour race at the Nurburgring three years in a row back in 1957. This car is mostly centered around the driver, whith room for someone who wants to come along for the ride. There's even a divider that's built into the body that sperates the drive and the passenger.
Everything in the CC100 is meant to make you feel like your in a 1950's race car. The center console comes with analog toggle switches and the transmission is all button controlled. The standard Aston Martin V12 engine is under the hood with an automated manual transmisson, unlike DBR1 which had a six cylinder engine and a five speed manual transmission. The 0-60 mph time is right at 4 seonds and the top speed is limited to 180 mph. This is definitely much quicker than the DBR1, and it will give you as close to an experience of driving a race car in the 1950's as you will ever get. The CC100 gives a look at what future Aston Martin vehicles will be like in the future. Sticking to it's racing heritage, the next 10 years may be quite interestng and exciting for Aston Martin.
