While it is true that bicycle helmets do save lives, they're incredibly uncomfortable and make you look like a complete dork. But a company in Sweden believe that there is now a cool version of a bike helmet.
It's called the Hovding and at first it doesn't look like a helmet. It actually looks more like a scarf or a piece of a rain poncho. Either way, you wear it like a scarf and sensors built inside detect if there will be an accident on your bike. It then begins to inflate and covers pretty much your entire head. After a few minutes, the airbag starts to deflate and goes back to being a scarf.
You can change the look of the Hovding to whatever colors or patterns you want. At the moment, the Hovding costs around $545. Chances are this will remain just a fashion statement for people who would rather play it safe. Also, due to the price, it's unlikely this will ever be made mandatory. Who on Earth would want to walk around everyday wearing a weird looking scarf?
