Many exotic cars makers know the best way to make a car go faster is to improve aerodynamics. This helps make the car glide down a road without any air resistance to slow it down. These days, many exotic cars have tons of scoops, side skirts, and bulges to make the car glide through the air as smooth as possible.
McLaren is now looking at taking this one step further. They're looking at getting rid of the giant windshield wiper and replace it with an infrared light and vibrations to clear the windshield of rain and snow. This is the same kind of technology used on jet planes. Without the wiper blade or the wiper motor, this would improve aerodynamics and make the car much lighter; all very good things.
McLaren is looking at just researching the technology. They have not said whether they will actually be using this technology or not. Having no wiper to clean windshields would both revolutionize cars and make cleaning your windshield seem ten times cooler. We'll see if this technology makes it into the car world.
