2014 Mercedes Benz S-Class
Perhaps Maybach's demise was the best thing that happened for the Mercedes S-Class.
The new 2014 Mercedes S-Class is better than ever, and it borderline nears uber-luxury.
As always, the S-Class comes packed in with the latest technology in mobility, but one especially stands out: Magic Body Control . With a set of stereo cameras mounted on the top portions of the windshield, the car scans the surface of the road, and adjusts the active suspension system to reduce the bumpiness of the ride. In simple terms, the car slightly "lifts up" the wheel if it senses a bump is about to hit the tire. This is world's first implementation of the technology in this manner. Toyota had planned a similar design for the flagship Lexus, and, as all other luxury technology has, this active suspension system will eventually trickle down to regular everyday cars.
Other safety technologies used in the new S-Class, such as lane departure warning and active braking system, have already started to spread to many non-luxury vehicles.
Beyond technology, the most outstanding aspect about the new S-Class may be the confident and sensual design cues that flow throughout the car, inside and out. The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class may be the most sophisticatedly designed Mercedes ever.
Available in two trims, S550 and S550 4MATIC, the new S-Class is powered by a double turbocharged 4.66L aluminum V8, with 455HP and 516LB-FT of torque at 1,800 - 3,500. Mercedes estimates that the car will clock 0-60 at 4.8 seconds.
