The sun is starting to set in Nashua, NH. When I go outside, I see something that looks like the Porsche 911. But it isn't the new 911. It's actually the new Cayman that debuted at Porsche of Nashua on May 10.
The new look to the Cayman does have a few comparisons to the 911, but when you get closer, you do notice the differences. The front and back ends are different. The headlights and tailights are different as well. It's only when you look at the car fom the side when you think the Cayman and 911 look alike.
Inside the basic Cayman, the interior is looking a bit dated. But inside the Cayman S, the interior is much more improved and better looking. A six speed manual is standard on the base model, but there is the option of having the superquick PDK transmission. The trend of going to PDK is becoming more standard, and when you see how quick the PDK shifts gears, you may decide to go along with the switch.
The flat six engine for the basic model has decreased in size from 2.9-liters to 2.7-liters. Despite this increase in size, power has increased to 275 hp. This means 0-60 mph is estimated at 4.7 seconds and then on to a top speed of 174 mph. With the Cayman S, you get the 3.4-liter flat six that produces 325 hp. This gets an estiated 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds and then on to the same top speed of 174 mph.
This is nothing like a 911. It's not as fast as a 911, but it is meant to be more comfortable to sit in and drive. While the 911 is meant to be a fun car for fast driving, the Cayman is meant to be an everyday car. Something you can use for running erands and going away for the weekend. You can still have fun with the Cayman, but it's more of an everyday car than something you use once in a while. With a price of $53,550, it's in the range of luxury cars, but it can go up to over $104,000 depending on which options you choose.
