Introducing the 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo

When Porsche unveiled the 911 back in 1963, they probably didn't know that they created an icon that is still going strong 50 years later. Apart from a few design upgrades, the basic layout has remained the same. The body is closely based off of the Volkswagen Beetle and the engine is place in the back.

So how can you improve on a car that is already incredible? Simple, just add more power. The new 911 Turbo for 2014 will be upgraded to 520hp. That means an estimated 0-60 mph time in just a few seconds, then on to a top speed of 198 mph. If that doesn't sound exciting, the new Turbo-S model will be boosted to 560 hp. This gives the S model a 0-60 estimated time of just 2.9 seconds and then on to the same 198 mph top speed. That's coming close to Ferrari and Lamborghini speeds.

Other new features for 2014 include a wider body to make room for the wider tires. Along with the traditional rear spoiler, there is also a new front spoiler to keep the front end on the ground. This makes for not only better aerodynamics, but for better handling as well.

You're probably thinking that all this added power and excitement comes with a hefty price. You would be right. The starting price for the base 911 Turbo is $149,000, and $189,000 for the S model. Since this is Porsche, that doesn't count for all the extra options available for these two cars either. But since these cars can do supercar speeds, it's not suprising that there is a steep price tag. Of course, compared to other supercars, the 911 Turbo is right in the middle as the average supercar.
