On this day back in 1913, two people named Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford started selling cars made by Singer. Originally, the company was called Bamford and Martin, but after many successful races at the Aston Clinton Hillclimb by Lionel Martin, the name of the company changed to Aston Martin.
The one thing that Aston Martin is still well known for is it's racing history. Many cars made by Aston Martin not only won many races including the French Grand Prix, but they also broke speed records and endurance records. Today, Aston Martin is still competing in races, most notably the 24 hours of Le Mans.
Another thing that Aston Martin is known for is it's work with the James Bond films, most famously Goldfinger with the DB5. Many Aston Martin Vehicles appeared in other James Bond flicks, but none became as famous as the DB5 from Goldfinger driven by Sean Connery.
Today, Aston Martin is stil going strong, building popular luxury sports that define the art and elegance of a car. Most popular are the Vantage, DB9, and the Vanquish. To celebrate 100 years, Aston Martin has built a special centenary edition of it's new Vanquish. With 100 years comes innovation, beauty, and engineering amazement. Who knows what the next 100 years will bring to Aston Martin.
