Movie Review: Furious 7

Movie Review: Furious 7

It seems that movies that should have ended a long time ago just seem to keep going. It's bad enough when movies get three or four sequels, but now, the Fast and Furious franchise is jumping into it's seventh movie.

The seventh movie starts right where the sixth movie ended. After his brother is crippled in the last movie, Deckard Shaw, played by Jason Statham, goes on a hunting spree, vowing to kill the friends and family of our two main characters. They of course are Dominic Toretto, played by Vin Diesel and Brian O'Conner, played by the late Paul Walker. With help from the CIA and a professional hacker named Megan Ramsey, played by Nathalie Emmanuel, they eventually catch Shaw and he's locked up in a high security prison.

While the storyline is rather interesting and keeps you on the edge of your seat, the chase scenes are just plain ridiculous and silly. There is no way that cars can parachute out of a plane and land on the ground intact. There's also no way a car can jump and fly through three different buildings.

The thing that I liked about the older Fast and Furious movies was the car chase scenes. Not only are there more cartoon looking fight scenes than chase scenes, the car chase scenes are boring and predictable. Sure, there are some really nice looking cars in this movie, but they don't do anything exciting. When you think that there will be some actual exciting car chases, it just turns into a dumb scene made mostly for laughs.

The one thing that did make this movie good was the ending. Paul Walkers character decides to settle down with his wife and kids and say goodbye to his old life of driving and his old friends. It then cuts to scenes from the past Fast and Furious movies between Paul Walker and his old friends, who are more like family to him.

While I do prefer the older Fast and Furious movies, this seventh one did end the way it should've ended. It also was a very touching tribute to Paul Walker. There are rumors of an eighth movie being planned, but I don't see how they could make another Fast and Furious movie without Paul Walker. What they should really do is end the franchise on a high note like they did with this movie. Some things just have to end sometime.
