Car Review: 2015 Ford Mustang

It's been fifty years since the first Mustang rolled off the lot. What better way to celebrate fifty years than by introducing a new version that also fixes the problems that the previous version had.

First, there's the new look. While it may look a little like the Fusion, it still has that original Mustang look with a modern twist to it. When you step inside, the hard plastic dash has been replaced with a leather wrapped dash. There are many more toggle switches as well as tiny instrument gauges that hark back to the 1960's muscle car era. The back seats are still useless for adults, but you can fit two kids in the back who want to have an exciting ride.

There are now three engine choices for the new Mustang. There's the standard 3.7L V6 that makes 305-hp. There's a new 2.3L turbocharged I4 that makes more power than the V6 with 311-hp. But I'll stick with the classic 5.0L V8 that has now gone up in power from 420-hp to 435-hp. The previous version still had that dumb live rear axle, which made it hard to go around a corner without crashing into a ditch. Now, the new version has independent suspension, and you do notice the difference. Not only do you not crash, but you can go around a corner at 60 mph and have tons of fun without worrying that the car might crash.

For those who can't handle corners and prefer to go in a straight line, there is a new option in the Mustang. While most cars have launch control to get going quickly without any wheel spin, the Mustang has a feature called burnout control. This allows the car to spin the wheels faster to generate nothing but smoke. It may look cool, but you'll be going through tires very quickly. The classic six speed manual is still available for that classic Mustang feel, but there is also a six speed auto with paddle shifters available. Most paddle shifters never work the way you want them, and this one is no exception. So if you really want to have fun, go with the classic six speed manual.

There's no way of knowing whether the Mustang will be around for another fifty years, but this new version still keeps the classic Mustang charm while also giving it a modern twist.
