If you've ever heard of the company Ariel, you've probably already know about it's best selling car, the Atom. The company also makes motorcycles, but the Atom is what put Ariel into the spotlight. While the Atom was a great toy for both the road and the track, it was never good off-road. Mainly because you were exposed to the elements and partly because it was too low.
Now, Ariel have created an off-road version of the Atom called the Nomad. It looks very similar to the Atom, only it now has chunkier tires to deal with the rugged terrain, and there is a roll cage that completely covers the car, in case you roll over. The good news about the roll cage is that there now is a windshield. So you won't have to worry about getting hit in the face by a bird. You may still get mud in your ears since the rest of the car is open to the elements. Due to the new suspension system, the car is much higher to alow you to go over rocks and tree roots. The interior is even waterproof, in case you decide to go swimming in your Nomad.
Powered by a Honda four cylinder engine, the Nomad is good for a 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 125 mph. Now, the original Atom would go much faster than the Nomad, but 125 mph off-road is pretty thrilling enough.
The Nomad will make its debut at the Autosport International Show in the U.K. Each Nomad will be hand built acording to whatever the owner wants, so each Nomad will be unique. Prices start at around $42,000, but sadly, they're only available in Europe. Maybe if luck comes this way, some off-road extremists may rally to have the Nomad come over to the U.S. We'll have to wait and see.
