Introducing the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT

Introducing the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT

The Mercedes Benz SLS AMG was the first car to be built specifically by AMG. Sadly, the striking and impractical gullwing car is no longer in production. Now, AMG have built a new car to replace the SLS.

It's simply called the AMG GT. The reason it's not called a Mercedes Benz is due to the fact that this is a car designed and built entirely by AMG. It has the same striking two door coupe body like the SLS, only without the cool looking but largely impractical gullwing doors. Power comes from AMG's hand built 4.0 liter V8 making 456-hp. This should catapult the car from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 189 mph. Now that may not seem like much compared to the SLS, but there also a GT S version packing 503-hp that can go to a top speed of 193 mph. Why AMG won't pass the 200 mph barrier is beyond me.

The interior packs the same luxury goodness you find in all Mercedes and the same hardcore suspension will also be fitted. Power still goes to the back wheels only so you won't have any trouble turning the back tires into a pile of smoke. Since this is a 2016 model, you won't be seeing the GT S until next spring. The regular GT version won't even come out until 2016. It's always nice to start things off with the more powerful and lively version first. It's also nice to see that while the top speed may be a bit slower than expected, you can still count on the mad men over at AMG to come up with a car that can cause a lot of excitement.
