Hyundai HCD-14: 2013 Concept Car of the Year
The Automotive Writers Group anointed the Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept with a big annual award.
The HCD-14 Genesis Concept, unveiled at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, propelled Hyundai's international image into the similar stratosphere where other high-end luxury brands reside. At the press conference, Hyundai not only showcased its Audiesque design talent, but also the latest in-cabin technology, such as eye movement detector and hand gestured infotainment and comfort controls.
The most significant of Hyundai's announcement was the possible "divergence" between Hyundai's premium and mass-market vehicles. With one more new premium car in the pipeline (on top of the Azera, the Genesis and the Equus), Hyundai may be seriously considering launching a new luxury brand, following the footsteps of all other major auto OEMs.
The Hyundai HCD-14 is a giant leap forward compared to the first of HCD series, the HCD-1. The introduction of the HCD-1 signaled Hyundai's rebirth in the 1990's, followed by the exceptionally designed Elantra and Hyundai's first in-house engineered and manufactured engine. The HCD-14 may do a similar feat for Hyundai in the luxury segment.
The Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept is impressive. Congratulations.
