Trying to find a place to park in a public garage is already a frustrating experience. You spend hours looking for a spot and when you think you found a spot, an annoying little small car is parked there surrounded by big, ugly SUV's. Then there's the problem with parking garage bathrooms. Not only are they always packed, especially the women's bathroom, but either the doors are broken, and they look like the Apocalypse just happened when you step inside.
Now, a company in Los Angeles is looking at not only making public bathrooms cleaner, but also more efficient. Tooshlights, a perfect name for this company, have designed LED lights that go above every stall. If the stall is occupied, the light is red, if the stall is empty, the light is green. LED lights are already being used to tell drivers whether a space is occupied or not, now the same technology will go into the bathrooms.
The company believes that this system will make wait times drop since everyone will know whether a stall is occupied or not. The lights may even be able to tell the custodian whether a certain stall needs to be cleaned or not, making the stalls much more relaxing to use.
These lights will get their first test run at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. If they prove to be successful, you may see them in other sports stadiums before coming to public parking garages. Anything that helps make public bathrooms more enjoyable to be in is always welcomed.
