With BMW's new i3 coming to dealers this month, the German company is looking to put it's foot in the green door. Not only are these new cars BMW's first venture into the environmental factor, but these cars are also supposed to still feel like sporty cars. Now, BMW has introduced a new way for customers to charge their vehicles.
Since many people park their cars outside, there's no way for people with no garages to charge their cars at night. But now, there is a specially designed carport for BMW i owners. Like the cars themselves, the carport is meant to be environmentally friendly. The sides are made out of the same carbon fiber that the cars bodies are made of. Plus, the posts are made out of bamboo; not only for strength, but also because they grow really fast compared to regular trees. To top it all off, there is a giant solar panel to not only keep the cars dry, but also to charge the car during the day.
Of course, the solar panel can't charge the car at night, so there is a built in car charger that not only charges your car outside, it even shows you how much electricity the car charger put in as well as how much the solar panel put in.
Right now, the carport is just a concept at the moment. If the i vehicles tend to be a huge hit, BMW may have to start making the carports for the owners who don't have a garage to charge their cars.
