Known mostly for it's racing history, McLaren hasn't had many cars that have become true automotive icons. There was the F1, and now there is the MP4-12C. Both these cars show that McLaren can go from race cars to street cars, but neither one has any true personality. They're both so keen on racing and being fast, they don't know how to have any fun.
Now, McLaren is looking at adding some personality to it's new car; called the 650S. When you look at it, it looks like an MP4-12C and a P1 made love to one another and gave birth to this. There are traits that come from the 12C and some traits that come from the P1. Inside is when you get real surpirsed. Not only do you get satelitte radio and GPS, you also get a rear camera and other car features that were never offered in a McLaren. Instead of a hybrid, you get the good old fashioned 3.8 liter V8 that produces 650 horsepower, hence the name.
There are no performance figures yet, but since this car has more power than the 12C, it will most likely be under 3 seconds. Both the hardtop and the convertible will be making their debuts next month at the Geneva Motor Show.
