Kia Quoris
Will Kia bring its flagship luxury sedan Quoris to America?
The Kia Quoris, known as the K9 in South Korea, is a rear-wheel drive luxury sedan. The car shares same platform with Hyundai's Equus, but with much more refined and modern European design.
Like the Equus, the Kia Quoris is packed in with technology and features that would rival any luxury cars from other OEMs. The only lacking point may be the company's reputation as a luxury maker.
Kia announced that the Quoris is ready for sale in markets outside of South Korea. But it still has not confirmed whether the car will arrive in the States in 2013.
The main question is whether consumers will buy into a luxury car under the Kia or Hyundai brand. The obvious answer to this question was precisely the reason for the Japanese brands to launch their luxury nameplates in the 1980's.
Perhaps the timing is ripe for Hyundai Motor Co. to launch an umbrella luxury marque in the US. The automaker certainly has demonstrated its ability to build quality cars with satisfied repeat customers. The BH-L (VI) platform and more able powertrain, coupled with successful implementation of an array of luxury equipment, also showed Hyundai's ability to build luxury cars.
Granted, it will not be an easy undertaking for Hyundai. If successful, however, it will certainly be a great extension of the company's meteoric success of late.
For now, the company has not released any details on Quoris' future in the US. Kia and Hyundai fans, however, would not mind seeing this beautifully designed car around. It may be a perfect substitute for the discontinued Lincoln Town Car (replaced by the Town Car "SUV") as livery vehicles as well.
