BMW i3
The BMW i3, the first series-produced model from the electric sub-brand of BMW, is coming.
Conceived and built from ground up as an electric vehicle, the BMW i3 has a range of 80-100 miles with a single charge. An optional gas engine "range extender" with additional 60 miles of range will be available as well.
The car is powered by an electric motor with an ample 170HP rating, and with its extremely light body design, the rear-wheel drive compact car should be able to handily zoom through city traffic.
Charging by plugging it in at home will be available, along with numerous public charging stations. Cross-country runs, however, may not be advised for a foreseeable future.
BMW has been showcasing the i-branded cars around the globe for some time now. BMW management seems confident that the extraordinary hype around the i-brand, including the exciting appearance in the movie "Mission Impossible", would not let down the customers when the car actually goes on sale. BMW will officially unveiled the i3 on July 29, 2013.
