100,000th EV sold in America: Mitsubishi i-MiEV
Plug In America, the national plug-in electric vehicle advocacy group, has been counting the EV sales in the US. The group announced that the 100,000th production EV sold was the Mitsubishi i-MiEV.
Mr. Rich Salmon of Grand Bay, Alabama purchased the Mitsubishi i-MiEV on May 16, 2013. He was on the fence about buying an electric vehicle, but he took the car for a test drive. He said, "I liked it, so I bought it." Little did he know that his new car would be the famed 100,000th EV in America, and that he would be awarded a ClipperCreek Level 2 electric vehicle charging station.
It has been only about two years since highway-worthy production plug-in electric vehicles have been in the market. Sale of 100,000 units is a remarkable achievement, and if the Moore's law could apply in some kind of fashion (with a limit function) in the sale of electrified automobiles, foreign oil dependence could end sooner than later, say in the next 20 years. One could only wish.
