What is it with the obsession over muscle cars? Everyone says that they're the best cars ever made in America. Being from a family who owned a few 60's muscles cars including Mustangs and Barracudas, I can say without a doubt that muscle cars are the worst cars ever made.
Lets start off with their looks. I will admit, a few muscle cars do look very good, but the majority of them are around the same size as a boat. I would not want to try to parallel park in one lets just say that. Of course, being the size of a boat, you can fit your entire family inside. You can even fit a few family members inside the trunk. But seriously, who would need something the size of a boat unless you're sailing on the open seas?
The one good thing about muscle cars is that they're great for drag racing. If you're lucky enough to find a muscle car with an American V8 under the hood, just put your foot to the floor and see what happens. Combine the V8 with a manual transmission, and you will have loads of drag racing fun.
However, once you get to a corner, the fun immediately stops. Since everyone spent all this time putting lots of power into the engine to make the car go fast during a drag race, they didn't do anything to make the car handle. So what you get is a powerful car with no brakes and no suspension. This results in every single muscle car spinning out of control eveytime it hit a corner. That spells trouble if you come across an actual sports car that's made to go around corners at high speeds. You'll just be spinning out being engulfed with dust as the better sports car speeds by.
Of course, there are a few car makers that have figured this out and have finally made their cars able to stop and handle correctly. Cadillac is by far the only car company in America that has built a car that can not only go fast, but can also go fast around a corner. Cars including the CTS-V and the new ATS are fine examples. But all other car companies including Ford, Chrysler, and Chevrolet are still dishing out useless muscle cars for people who think that the only way to have fun is to go fast in a straight line. Get into the seat of a real sports car like Porsche, Audi, and Mercedes and then you'll see what real fun is like. Until then, get used to spining out of control and being blown away by much better cars.
