Its a cold start to the beginning of the day. I quickly walk to my car to get out of the chilly outside and start my car to head to work. This is what most people do every morning, but it was a little different 20 and 30 years ago. Back then, people had to work to start their cars, which were mostly run using carburetors instead of fuel injection. So people had to pump the accelerator and wait for the car to warm up otherwise the car would stall. Some things, like fuel injection, make driving and starting cars easier and less stressful, but nowadays, the majority of technology being put into cars is making driving not only boring but also causing more distractions. With the addition of computers powering everything from the lights to the dashboard, more touchscreens and monitors are being added to cars, even with downloadable aps ranging from music to travel guides to even Facebook, in case you need to update your status while stuck in traffic during the morning commute. However, with these new screens and monitors, more drivers are paying attention to the screens in front of them rather than the road. This hasnt caused any major accidents yet, but one day there may be a news report on how a driver was killed due to updating their Twitter account. With technology in cars getting more advanced, cars are becoming like smart phones. They let you know when a car is coming by vibrating the seat, although this would most likely just cause a crash because the driver would just relax even more from the nice massage they were getting. They even parallel park for you. You just program where you to ark, let go of the wheel, and the car parks itself, leaving you sitting there in either amazement or fear that you might crash into a parked car. This is where drivers become lazy and pay less attention to the road because they rely more on the car driving rather than themselves. I would much rather have cars from the 1960s than these boring laptop boxes that do everything for you. Sure, they had no computer technology whatsoever, just a radio for entertainment. The only thing that you could rely on was yourself, so you paid more attention to the road and if you broke down, you fixed the problem yourself. Sure, these cars were not as safe as the modern cars of today, but they had more personality, you had fun on the road, and you would take a car out just to drive it with no destination at all. Thats what cars and drivers of today are missing, the thrill of driving on the open road, no distractions except maybe your fellow passengers, and the pride of being able to not just drive to a certain destination, but also repair any problems that may arise along the way.
