Since 2008 over 238,000 highway legal plug-in electric cars have been sold in the country through July 2014, with California accounting for about one third of nationwide total sales. The American market share of plug-in electric passenger cars increased from 0.14% in 2011 through 0.37% in 2012 to 0.62% of new car sales during 2013. As of June 2014, the U.S. is the world's leader in plug-in electric car sales with a 45% share of global sales. When sales are broken down by type of powertrain, the United States was the leader in plug-in hybrid sales in 2012 with a 70% market share of global sales, and ranked second in pure electric car sales with a 26% share, after Japan (28%).

During the first seven months of 2014 the plug-in car market share was 0.70%.

Honda cars India has now officially announced the launch of the much anticipated Honda City Diesel in 2014. This was revealed by president and CEO of Honda Car India, Hirnori Kanayama in an exclusive media interview. Reports suggest that City will get a complete facelift in the year 2014 and it will be launched with two engines, 1.5L i-VTEC and newly developed 1.5L i-DTEC, the later also powers the newly launched Honda Amaze. Honda, unveiled the new City sedan for the global markets and it will go on sale in January 2014. The two main rivals of Honda City Diesel are Volkswagen Vento and Hyundai Verna

New Cars for 2013 - A large number of lawsuits have been filed in response to the recall, by those claiming to have been injured due to the recalled vehicles' faulty switches. These lawsuits include at least two class action ones, one filed by a man from Myerstown, Pennsylvania on April 2 and another filed in federal court in California. Two other lawsuits have also named Delphi Automotive, the car parts manufacturer who produced the defective switches, as one of the parties partly responsible for the deaths caused by the now-recalled vehicles. On July 29, 2014, a lawsuit was filed in US District Court in Manhattan on behalf of 658 people who claim that they were injured or killed because of the faulty ignition switches in GM's recalled cars. The lawsuit alleges that GM knew about the faulty switches since 2001 but did not recall any of its cars until 2014.
