Introducing the Renovo Coupe: America's First Electric Supercar

It seems that electric cars are starting to become the new way to get around. The problem is they're not the most fun to drive and they take forever to charge. While the Tesla Model S does have a sports car feel to it, another company in Silicon Valley is working on a car that could blow the Tesla Model S away.

Developed by a company called Renovo, this little sports coupe looks very similar to a Shelby Daytona. That's because it uses the body and chassis from the Shelby Daytona, but that's when things start to become a bit different. Instead of a powerful straight six or V8 under the hood, this uses a lithium ion battery pack. The batteries are good enough for 500 horsepower, which may seem like enough power. The really impressive part is that they deliver 1000 lb-ft of torque. That's enough to propel the car from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 120 mph. That's way faster than any other electric car, including the Tesla Model S.

Of course this electric car doesn't come cheap. There will be a limited production coming next years and each car will cost $529,000. That's more than a current Rolls Royce. But you can still charge it at any EV charging station or at your own home. It also still takes the same charging time of either 30 minutes for a quick charge or two hours for a full charge. It can even go for 100 miles on a single charge.

The  Renovo Coupe will be on display this weekend at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. It may be a pricy car, but now you can have an electric that looks great and drives like a normal gas powered car.
