You might think that the U.S. has the most number of cars on the road, but in reality, China has the most cars on the road with over 13.6 million cars back in 2009. Even the highway system in China is the longest highway in the world at 53,000 miles long. That's pretty surprising since back in the 90's most people in China weren't allowed to buy cars, only government officials owned cars.
Since everyone in China can now buy cars, the Chinese government is looking at building their own cars. Since most of the cars they make are badly made, they usually just make copies of existing cars and change the name. Now, they are making their Hongqi series sedans available for the public to buy.
As the same size as a Rolls Royce Phantom, this will feel like a limosine compared to other cars on the roads. Plus, with a 6.0 L V12 pumping 402-hp, it should go quickly as well. The Hongqi brand has been around since the 1950's, with it's name meaning "red flag," to symbolize the Chinese flag. With the interior of the new L-Series, it looks pretty much like it did in the 50's, only with a few digital screens put in.
At a price of $801,000, chances are only government officials will be buying this car since most people in China will be unable to afford this car. Kind of makes putting it for sale to the public a bit pointless with the high price. But at least people could admire it at the Beijing Motor Show.
