Exploring the History of Mercedes Benz

Exploring the History of Mercedes Benz

Best known as the company that first produced the car, Mercedes Benz has been around since the late 1800's. They have also been producing cars in the same location in Stuttgart, Germany for centuries. Besides the enormous factory, there is also an eight-story high museum where you can not only learn about the history of Mercedes Benz, but also the history of the automobile since Mercedes Benz was the first to do anything car related.

You start out at the very top of the building and work your way down starting from the 1800's with the Benz Patent Wagon all the way to the present and future. Besides classic cars, there are sections hidden away that show specialty vehicles, vehicles once owned by famous celebrities, and even the first gas powered engine.

During World War II, the entire Mercedes factory was completely destroyed by bombs. Many of the cars were hidden underground and when the war was over, some thought the company would never recover since the entire area was a complete wasteland. Due to great ambition, the entire factory was rebuilt and the cars that survived were put in a museum section of the factory. Before the eight-story museum was built in 2006, visitors could only visit the museum inside the
factory.

The entire building is so big, it will take an entire day to visit the whole thing. It's so big that if you're not careful, you could get a bit lost. Thankfully, there are people around to help you find your way. There is even the official dealership next door that is right next to the museum gift shop. The dealership is the only area where you can actually sit inside the cars. They're not too thrilled about people sitting inside the museum cars. So if you're in the town of Stuttgart, Germany, the Mercedes Benz Museum is one attraction that you should definitely visit.
