Who would have thought that it would be Volvo to truly get sporty, utility and safety combined?

Volvo introduced the R-Design version of the V40. The R-Design is the sportier line of their models, similar to the M of BMW and the S of Audi, but not quite. Consumers should not expect from the R-Design the sports-car-worthy performance of the M and the S, but rather a sportier and more fashionable version of a Volvo.

While Volvo expects about 10% of V40 buyers to purchase the R-Design version, it is more likely that Volvo would be able to attract more conquest buyers to consider Volvo for the first time.

The new Volvo V40 is already one of the safest cars around, and the new design has successfully converted a station wagon into almost a cool looking hatchback-like car.

The R-Design version increased the sportiness of the ride, installed more fashionably sporty look, and gave the V40 a high-performance T5 turbo with 254 horsepower.

Volvo engineers were able to combine safety, utility and sportiness into one fine package called the Volvo V40 R-Design.

The V40 R-Design will be far more fuel efficient than a small SUV, but will provide almost as much utility. In this day and age, when safety, utility and fuel efficiency are emphasized, a cool dad might definitely want to consider a sporty version of this station wagon.

If Volvo marketing folks can successfully put the V40 R-Design in front of all the cool moms and dads, Volvo may get a lot of new buyers, and the 10% figure may turn out to be grossly underestimated.
