Volkswagen introduced a mini SUV concept Taigun at the Sao Paulo Motor Show.

The mini SUV concept is built on Volkswagen's small car architecture, on which the new Golf is based. As it is introduced, the Taigun runs on a three-cylinder engine, and would get over 50 miles per gallon.

Granted, there is no production plan for the Taigun and no plan for the mini SUV to appear in the US market, but it is an intriguing concept. These days, almost all manufacturers are considering small utilitarian ride, as the small utility family segment seems to be the fad.

Many experts argue that such small utility vehicle will not succeed in the US, but increasing prices of resources may determine the fate of the small utility vehicles. The Taigun concept is a good looking vehicle with a lot of potential.

In fact, the Taigun may be a perfect vehicle for many city dwelling small families. Sitting up would provide good visibility of the road, short length (even shorter than the Ford Fiesta!) would be ideal for tight parking spaces, and the cargo space would be just enough to put all the stuff that comes with raising kids. And 50MPG - ok, perhaps more realistically 40MPG - would combat the rising fuel prices.

So, Volkswagen, bring the Taigun to the US market!
