Fiat 500L and Fiat 500L Trekking
Fiat introduced the larger version of the 500 series to the North American market. Arriving in Mid-2013 as 2014 models, the Fiat 500L and Trekking will be welcomed additions to Fiat's otherwise-mini-car lineup.
The 500L is no longer a sub-compact. The dimensions and interior space even verges on EPA's definition of a large car. But the look and feel of the car is distinctively 500.
Fiat's 1.4L MultiAir 160HP Turbo engine powers the new 500L, and Fiat will offer two six-speed transmission choices: manual transmission, or dual dry clutch transmission (DDCT).
The 500L is not meant to be a performance car, as Fiat fans already know, and the L version would attract economic families who fancy Italian design. The Trekking version comes with 17-inch wheels and other design elements that shouts out outdoor adventure, in Italian style, of course.
Both 500L and Trekking are equipped with Fiat's Uconnect infotainment system with touchscreen: 5-in for 500L and 6.5-in for 500L Trekking.
Interior of these economic family cars are nothing but sparse. Even though they certainly do not sport luxurious appointments, Fiat does not disappoint with the design elements from its Italian fashion root. The functional interior flow well.
With the 500L, the North American consumers now have a viable and fashionable alternative to everyday economy cars. It puts the Fiat brand in a whole new category of consumer consideration. Bravo!
