Honda felt the competitive heat and upgraded the Civic ahead of schedule.

When Honda launched its completely redesigned Civic as 2012 model, the critics were not too kind. For some reason, Honda had underestimated its competition, and the look and feel of the legendary compact car felt cheap compared to its rising competitors. Hyundai, Kia and Ford put out the best available designs and features on their compact cars, and Honda felt comparatively like a substandard vehicle. It is certainly difficult for the competitors to outdo Honda in the engine and other driving related technology department, but the compact car buyers these days have high expectations of standard features even from the economy cars.

Honda set out to fix that.

The new 2013 Honda Civic now leads the pack in standard features, and the interior does not feel like a plastic toy car anymore. The exterior design received some updates, especially the rear end. As any redesign goes, the new look may be somewhat controversial, but it stands out from the crowd.

Honda product planners have righted the wrong Civic so well that listing all the standard features and refinements seems redundant in introducing "the Civic". In other words, the new 2013 Civic lives up to Honda standard, or at least what people expect from Honda. The new Civic is, as it should be, a safe, reliable, fuel efficient, stylish, drivable and advanced compact car. And the price starts at $18,165.

The new Civic has returned to be a car that any "car guy" would recommend to his friends. Welcome back, Civic!
