The 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV is really a mini version of the Volt in an all-electric form.

More than 75% of the propulsion system components are from GM's existing hybrids and plug-ins. GM promises that the EV version of Chevrolet's new entry in the mini-car segment will provide "industry-leading EV power, outstanding driving range, and exceptional fast-charge capability."

In terms of power, the EV's 130HP equivalent electric motor with 400LB-FT torque can propel the mini-car 0-60MPH in less than 8 seconds. GM has not released the overall driving range of the Spark EV, but with deployment of DC Fast Charging stations, the Spark EV can be charged 80% of its battery in 20 minutes. Similar to the Volt, the car can be charged overnight at home with a standard outlet.

GM will introduce the Chevrolet Spark EV only in California in summer of 2013. Since the car is slated more for urban electric mobility, it may not enjoy much success until it hits tighter urban areas such as Chicago or New York.

The Chevrolet Spark is GM's first foray into the mini-car segment in the US, and the electric version will only heighten the interest of the millennials.
